STONE SOUP
COVID has forced our family’s hand to be more creative than ever in how we connect with others. This Fall, we celebrated the Harvest season by participating in a virtual event with friends focused around the story of stone soup. It was simple in its plan and prep and really beautiful in what it represented.
We started the event with a Zoom meetup. We read the book, Stone Soup and had a little chat about what the repeating phrase from the retelling spoke “Do you care, will you share" and then headed out as family units to visit each porch stoop to pick up ingredients that friends had left out to share and leave notes behind telling our friends why we were so thankful for them.
After collecting our shared ingredients and leaving behind our notes of gratitude we returned home and each family made their soup and prepped for dinner. We then all zoomed back in to share our creations and Zoom dinner date together.
PREP:
Decide on what soup ingredients each family will share. We just started a shared google doc where each fam signed up for a few items - helping us avoid having an entire soup filled with mushrooms.
Create a turkey for your front door. We did not stress about this, each family just drew one on a large piece of paper (the back side of a paper bag works great for this.)
Get a copy of Stone Soup. and leave notes behind telling our friends why we were so thankful for them.
Write your feathers of gratitude for each friend or family unit. You could keep it simple or go all out and decorate each one. You could also leave out supplies at each porch to do this when you pick up soup ingredients - but I suggest getting this done ahead of time.
Schedule your ZOOMS. Schedule a story time and dinner date meetup
Day Of :
