PROPOSED 1.5-2.5 hour workshop
Brush Lettering Workshop for small group
Learn how to utilize brush pens to create that gorgeous lettering you see all over instagram. 

We will go through the basics of brush lettering and faux-ligraphy together, leaving you with all the knowledge to expand your practice at home and be ready to write the coolest notes around.

PROPOSED 1.5-3 hour workshop
Soft Block Carving Workshop for small group
Learn how to carve on a softblock surface, creating your own stamps to use on stationary, stickers, tags, and envelopes ... there are a million ways to use them and endless possibilities.

Students will learn the basics of carving tools and review positive and negative space when thinking about your design. Each student will carve two small stamps and learn the ins and outs of printing while experimenting with many hand-carved stamps, colors, and surfaces.

Sit down to a pre-drawn scene and learn how to bring it to life using watercolors. I have a wide selection of still life and landscape designs to choose from.

Brush Lettering Private Lessons
Session 1: Basics of the Brush Stroke
Using Crayola regular and supertip markers students will become accustomed to the correct pen grip and pressure to create the distinguished brush stroke look.  We will complete a series of exercises to practice the pen grip as well as brush stokes before completing a few occasion cards, gift bags, and tags.

Session 2: Transferring the grip to a brush tip pen
Using Tombow Fudenosuke brush pens (hard and soft tip) students will be introduced to the traditional brush lettering practice by starting a series of exercises in a bound workbook.   Students will then make a small watercolor background to be used the following week before making a 8x10 brush lettered artwork.  Students will take workbook home and hopefully have time to practice for next week.

Session 3: Transferring the grip to a brush tip pen
Using a variety of brush pens (participants Tombow Fude pens, Pentel sign pens, and colored Tombow brush pens).  We will review problem letters, bounce lettering, and spacing.  Students will make a desk calendar, complete a small quote of their choosing, and make place cards.

Session 4: Watercolor and Brush Lettering
Introduction to the Pentel Arts Aquash Water Brush.  We will use it with sumi ink and watercolors to create a variety of effects, solid black to rainbow letters. Basic watercolor techniques will also be talked about if time allows.  The focus will be on working on a larger scale lettered works.

Private Paper Making Class
Use natural materials to make your very own sheet of paper. Learn how paper is made by hand and give it a try your self. Students will each make their own sheet of paper from start to finish.

Choose a subject matter of your own, or let me guide students to draw or paint a seasonally appropriate creation. Basic supplies and procedures will be covered and students will leave with a finished project that they are proud to show off.
