Liquid watercolors offer a vibrant alternative to pan or tube watercolor. Unlike traditional pan or tube watercolors, liquid watercolors come in bottles and are highly concentrated, allowing for intense hues and easy dilution to achieve subtle shades. Their fluid consistency lends itself well to various techniques such as washes, glazing, and wet-on-wet painting, offering artists a wide range of possibilities. Whether used for transparent layers or bold, opaque effects, liquid watercolors provide a dynamic and expressive tool for artists of all levels to explore and experiment with.

The two artist grade liquid watercolors I use are pictured and linked above. Dr. Ph Martins Hydus Watercolors are beautifully vibrant. Thicker consistency compared to the concentrated watercolor, they are made from high quality pigments that ensure lightfastness, which makes them perfect for large bold watercolor paintings. Dr. Ph Martins Concentrated Watercolors are dye based, and thus not lightfast. However, they are the boldest and most vibrant liquid watercolor that I’ve come across. I love the color choices and the east of use. They are perfect for vibrant paintings that will be scanned and printed or used digitally or for artwork in a sketchbook or journal that is stored closed and away from light.
