A Monarch named Tennessee
A Monarch named Tennessee
A unique hand-printed art piece from a hand carved block that I individually paint with gouache.
A print based on observational drawings of a Monarch Butterfly. My kids and I have been raising Monarchs for the past few Summers. We all watch in anticipation as caterpillar turns to chrysalis and emerges as a unique butterfly. My daughter named this particular male Monarch butterfly, “Tennessee”, before watching him take his inaugural flight.
Starting with a sketch, I make a drawing that is transferred to a soft rubber block. I carve my original drawing and then make a print using high quality pigmented inks on acid free art paper. After the ink sets, I paint each individual print with watercolor and gouache paint.Starting with a sketch, I make a drawing that is transferred to a soft rubber block.
